The American Cinematheque showcased a film featuring famed
Whitley Heights' resident Bette Davis in what has been called her last genuinely great picture. In 'The Nanny',
Davis plays the role of a spinster-housekeeper assigned to oversee a
'disturbed' 10-year old boy back home from a special school
he has attended since killing his baby sister... or could it be the deed was done by
sweet, sweet Nanny?
This was a really good chance
to experience this masterfully-orchestrated psychological thriller as
it remains unavailable on DVD. Those who went were able to relive some of the history of
Whitley Heights and Old Hollywood -- and actually see the motion picture in an
exciting, movie palace theater setting with a new 35mm print!

Director Seth Holt's masterpiece is a psychological suspenser in the
tradition of British Horror. Arguably Bette Davis' last really
good
film, 'The Nanny' is as effective as 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane' and thoroughly involving. This film, also starring
Wendy Craig, Jull Bennett, James Villiers, William Dix and Pamela
Franklin is a superbly-directed psychological drama; haunting and
memorable.
The film showed:
Sunday, June 18 - 6:30 PM
'The Nanny' was playing a thrilling double feature with the ultra-rare 'Start Counting'.
The address of the Egyptian Theatre is 6712 Hollywood
