Here are a few facts on the Hollywood Walk of Fame -- for those who want to know more!

The Hollywood Walk of Fame was envisioned in 1958 as a fitting tribute to the personalities who helped make Hollywood the most famous community in the world. This longstanding tradition continues today as a stellar reminder of those who have helped to create the foundation of Hollywood's fame and continue to contribute to the city's reputation as the land of glamour and stardom. It is no accident that the Walk remains one of the city's most widely-seen tourist attractions.

The Walk of Fame was designated a Cultural/Historic Landmark by the City of Los Angeles -- and the Hollywood Historic Trust, a continuing, self-financing program, maintains the quality of the the various stars and locations surrounding them. The Walk of Fame lines both sides of Hollywood Boulevard from Gower to La Brea, and both sides of Vine Street, from Sunset Boulevard to Yucca.

Official groundbreaking ceremonies were conducted February 9, 1960. In sixteen months, when construction was completed, 1,558 luminaries were immortalized in the sidewalk for all eternity. Since that time, about one to two stars per month have been added. The stars celebrate performers or celebrities in the fields of film, radio, television, theater, and music.

The Walk of Fame is currently alive with more than 2,500 polished stars.
