Category: Main -> Whitley Heights Activities

Question
·  What kind of activities go on in Whitley Heights?

Answer
·  What kind of activities go on in Whitley Heights?

There are a variety of fun and involving activities that occur throughout the year in Whitley Heights. Many of the funnest activities are those that change from year to year -- so to be specific about what is going to be coming up in any given time is hard to say. There is a yearly Whitley Heights Pumpkin Contest which usually occurs the Sunday before Halloween (or on Halloween if it falls on a Sunday!) This is not to be missed as residents go all-out to create a festive Halloween occasion.

Every year on August 23 at noon (or more precisely 12:10 pm), various Whitley Heights residents and others from throughout the Hollywood area visit the Hollywood Forever memorial site of Rudolph Valentino.  It is a yearly tradition for residents, both new and old.  Typically one hundred or so visitors are at the ceremony commemorating the actor in words, video and pictures.  Many are from out of the area, but the variety of people who are lifelong fans of Rudolph Valentino is quite amazing.

Additionally, throughout the year, neighbors take on various fun activities to keep life on the hill active and lively. Near December, lamp post decorating has become traditional and neighbors on various streets adopt their own lamps to decorate with holiday cheer -- ribbons, garland, and any number of colorful designs.

On various occasions, home tours have been given to showcase the beautiful and historic houses within Whitley Heights. Sometimes these are co-sponsored with the LA Conservancy and sometimes they are organized by the Whitley Heights Civic Association.

More recently, Bowl-a-rama has hit the hill as various teams sign up to bowl and socialize -- both to have fun and to raise funds for various Whitley Heights Civic Association (WHCA) activities on the hill. The play is non-competitive, but winners and losers usually take how some kind of prize or fun award.

This website also sponsors some activities throughout the year -- always in an attempt to generate neighborly goodwill and fun for everyone participating. Events or contests will appear at WhitleyHeights.com or you will receive notice if you are subscribed to the website.

As any hill events come up, we will try to announce the various activities ahead of time so neighbors and friends can enjoy the fun that comes with living in the community of Whitley Heights!
