The Academy Foundation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences celebrates the legendary actress Barbara Stanwyck during the year of her centennial with an evening of film clips and onstage conversation with Stanwyck’s friends and colleagues. This tribute will be followed by a retrospective screening series at the UCLA Film & Television Archive’s new Billy Wilder Theater.

H.J. Whitley To be Celebrated In Newly Published Book

A new and remarkable history on the founder of Whitley Heights, Hobart Johnstone Whitley will soon be released and should shed some much-needed light on one of the key players who brought Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley to life.

The forthcoming book, entitled The Father of Hollywood, is set to detail the stories and history of the visionary who was instrumental in the development of Hollywood and greater Los Angeles, and, of course, his neighborhood namesake – Whitley Heights.

So who exactly H.J. Whitley and how did he achieve the coveted title of The Father of Hollywood?

NCJW/LA a leading social service provider in the Los Angeles area seeks a part-time evening receptionist/security person to cover front desk and lobby at main office.

Hours: Tuesday thru Thursday
5 p.m. – 9 p.m. (or as needed until 10 p.m.)

Acts as the primary point of contact for walk-in members, visitors, and guests, receiving them in a warm, friendly and professional manner. Determination of needs of members and visitors and monitoring security aspects of the building associated with the lobby and building entrances. Must ensure building is properly secured with alarm settings prior to leaving.
Security conscious and ability to exercise sound judgment.
• Insure proper completion of “sign in” log and complete any incident reports for Facilities Director
• Ensure vehicles in lot are properly parked. Tow as necessary
• Monitor and control access to the building, which includes monitoring entrances via closed circuit television and operation of door switches
• Converse in a clear and pleasant manner
• Deal maturely and calmly with the public
• Follow prescribed procedures regarding aspects of the building security programs
• Refer customer complaints or inquires to the appropriate individual/department
• Answer general organization related questions and refer to appropriate individual
• Follow prescribed procedures related to handling of confidential material/information, etc.
• Operate switchboard as required
• Ensure visitors are directed to assigned meeting rooms, oversee required equipment and seating arrangements, assist in set-up, tear down and clean-up of rooms as needed.
• Performs other duties as required
